小茧蜂的幼虫在寄主体内化蛹或老熟后钻出，在寄主体表结成黄色或白色小茧化蛹，有时数十只集聚在一起。如菜粉蝶绒茧蜂（Apantelesglomeratus），长约3毫米，寄生于菜粉蝶幼虫体内，幼虫老熟后在寄主体表结许多黄色小茧.麦蚜茧蜂（EphedrusplaAgiator），在麦蚜、桃蚜等体内化蛹。每个蚜虫体内只有1头蜂，寄主颜色变深并膨硬如球，羽化时自腹部背面咬穿1圆孔飞出另寻寄主.中华茧蜂（Braconchinensis），长约4毫米，是稻螟和甘蔗螟虫常见的寄生蜂.
