Carson院士是美国科学院院士、美国艺术与科学院院士、美国医学科学院院士，国际著名的肿瘤专家和免疫学家。

他于1970年获得哥伦比亚大学医学博士学位，先后担任加州大学圣地亚哥分校Sam&Rose Stein衰老研究所主任、医学院副院长、Moores癌症中心主任、名誉主任。2013年3月受聘于深圳大学医学院特聘教授，并出任肿瘤研究中心主任。
